You should apply as a Recruit Firefighter if:
- You are between the ages of 21-40
- You have no previous experience as a career firefighter. We define a career firefighter as someone who works as a firefighter in a full-time capacity (40-56 hours/week).
- You have a high school diploma or equivalency.
- You have no felony convictions.
- You have a high moral standard.
- You are driven and have a good work ethic.
- Work well in very stressful and intense environments.
- You appreciate and encourage a diverse work environment.
- You can work well with a diverse group of peers.
- You appreciate working in a team environment.
- You have a desire to serve the citizens and visitors to our city and county.
- You are willing to put the needs of our citizens and visitors above your own.
- You enjoy working with your hands and enjoy physical challenges.
- You have healthy habits like participating in a regular physical fitness regimen, being on time, and avoiding unhealthy practices like excessive alcohol and drug use.
- You have good time management skills.

You should apply as a Lateral Firefighter if you meet all the criteria above and have:
- Two years of experience as a career (full-time) firefighter experience.
- Indiana, IFSAC, and/or Proboard Firefighter II and Hazard Materials Operations.
- Indiana and/or NREMT certifications: EMT-B, A-EMT, or Paramedic.
